Potential program: Political science

The Tommies Women's rugby team has added a valuable piece to next year's squad. Aurora Sutton of Miramichi is expected to thrive on and off the pitch.

Sutton, who hopes to study political science, has a strong academic history during her time at James M. Hill High School. Sutton was awarded the Honorary Academic Excellence Achievement Award during her time at JMH. She said she chose STU to stay close to home, as well for their programs.

“I chose STU for the sense of community. STU has many unique opportunities available for undergraduate students such as myself, that other universities cannot offer," Sutton said. "I knew I wanted to stay close to home, but wanted a home away from home experience, while still remaining in smaller classes and connecting with my peers.”

On the pitch, Sutton brings versatility to the Tommies offence and defense. Having the ability to fly with the backs and pack with the forwards, Baker expects her impact to be immediate.

“After a conversation with her previous coach, I know that Aurora will make an outstanding impact on our team next year. Aurora’s quick decision making, and speed will make her a great addition to our backfield and her hard work, determination, and selflessness will help her smoothly transition into university rugby," Baker said. "I am excited to see her add to the program in the coming years.”

Sutton's previous coach described her as an exceptional leader who cared for her teammates, making sure everyone was included. Sutton said she believes she'll bring her team spirit over to her new colours.

“I believe that I will bring great camaraderie and team spirit to the group, as well as a hustle and heart mentality," Sutton said. "I strive to motivate others, as well as push myself to be the best athlete I can”.
