Tommies Aim for Top of ACAA Table Again

The 2019-20 Tommies women’s soccer team will feature a solid core returning from a 10-0-2 regular season last year.

The Tommies return six ACAA All-Stars from last year’s team, including 2nd Team All-Stars Victoria Muise (Dartmouth, NS), Jessica McWilliams (Tracadie, NB) and Kaleigh Roberts (Moncton, NB) and 1st Team All-Stars Leandra Upton (Fredericton, NB), Louisa Hughes (Fredericton, NB) and Nikita McCartney (Moncton, NB). McCartney was also named ACAA Player of the Year and CCAA All-Canadian.

The Tommies have eight new faces this season, including three new keepers.

“We’re looking forward to watching our rookies shine in ACAA action,” added DeCourcey. “We have a record three new goalkeepers on the team this year, all more than capable of earning starts in league action. We also have five new field additions, Kait Benjamin, Laura Horsley, Abby Cameron, Talia Corkum, and Taylor Clark, who will all be working earn their place in our starting line-up.”

With the infusion of young talent to a solid returning core, the Tommies will look to build off last year’s campaign and avenge their 3-2 loss in the ACAA Championship game, their only loss on the year.

“I expect that this will be another exciting season of ACAA women’s soccer action,” said reigning ACAA Women’s Coach of the Year, Michelle DeCourcey. “The team has set the goal, once again, of finishing at the top of the league, and I expect that they will work hard to make this a reality. It’s fantastic to have such a solid returning core of players who have a sense of what it takes to excel at this level.”

The Tommies open their season Sunday, September 7th at 12:00pm when they host their Highway 7 rivals, the UNBSJ Seawolves.
