Tommies Cruise to 5-1 Victory Over Rams

The St. Thomas University Women's soccer team trounced the Dalhousie Agriculture Campus Rams 5-1 at the Grant-Harvey Turf Field on Saturday afternoon.

STU head coach Michelle DeCourcey was happy with the overall performance of her team.

"We went out and did what we wanted to do and there were great performances by everyone who went out there."

Jayci Peck (Woodstock, NB) was an outstanding performer, scoring in both halves of the match. She also set up Carolyne Roy (Sainte-Anne-d.-M., NB) in the first half when she looked certain to score.

"I thought she did an excellent job and she did say she was going to be less selfish in the box and that's what she did to set up the goal," DeCourcey said when speaking about Peck after the match.

The Rams did well at the beginning of the second half and managed to pull the deficit back to one goal through Sarah Kennedy (Stewiacke, NS), right before Peck got her second goal.

This took the wind out of the Rams' sails and STU piled on the pressure. Goals from Kait Benjamin (Bridgewater, NS) and Rachel Haanstra (Fredericton, NB) sealed the three points for the Tommies in what turned out to be an emphatic victory.

The Tommies now have a record of an even record of 3-3 while the Rams fall to 0-6.

STU will host the Holland College Hurricanes on Sunday in their next game while DAL AC will take the trip to Saint John to face University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves on the same day.
