STU takes charge over Crandall with 3-1 win Wednesday

MONCTON, NB - STU Tommies hand Chargers their first loss of 2023, claiming the match in four sets. (25-8, 25-15, 14-25, 25-19)

 

After having to postpone their originally scheduled game over the weekend the two schools agreed to the rare mid-week matchup to kick off the second half of the 2022-23 season.

 

The Chargers did not come out of the gates in perfect form dropping the first set 8-25 however they soon found their stride and pieced together a competitive match.

 

Both Middles for the Chargers had games that don't jump out on the stat sheet but played a big role in the events, as both Hailey Legacy (Dieppe, NB) and Brianna Rancourt (Charlottetown, PE) we routinely getting their hand on the Tommies attacks and keeping STU's defence honest with quick hits and tips. 

 

Janelle Blanchette (Cap-Pele, NB) led the Chargers in points with 12.5, recording 11 kills and a service ace.

 

Kathleen Boyle had a big night for STU accounting for 19 total points with an outstanding .306 hitting percentage going 17 of 36 and tallying two solo blocks.

 

Tommies routinely were able to get the ball to their setter Julia Campbell who was able to give her team the opportunity to capitalize as Campbell recorded 24 assists on the night.

 

Defensive standouts for the Tommies were Abby Lanteigne with 11 digs and Maddie MacGregor who tallied 4 solo and a pair of blocking assists.

 

The Chargers will look to turn things around on Saturday as they head out to Saint John to face the UNBSJ Seawolves, first serve is set for 1:00 PM.
