Personal Bests Mark 2019 Season for Tommies

The 2019 St. Thomas Tommies women’s cross-country team saw three new Tommies join the mix.

Joining returning Tommies, Alaina Mejia and Jensen Elliott, were Julia MacDonald, Jessica Kenny and AUS transfer, Priya Bhutani.

Having just three runners with cross country experience, head coach Nicholas Larade was ecstatic with his team’s performance on the season.

“Our women stepped up the challenges in front of them, especially Jessica Kenny and Julia MacDonald, who had never run cross country before,” said Larade. “The fact that our women were able to better their team score at the AUS Championships by over 30 points is a testament to their hard work.”

There were a number of personal bests throughout the season, including Elliott’s performance at StFX being three minutes faster than her previous time on that course.

Larade was pleased with the work his team has put in this season both on and off the course.

“Julia and Jessica both stood out as examples of hard work. With very little time to build mileage before the Championship, they not only completed the race in strong fashion, but I think surprised themselves with what they were capable of running. In addition, Alaina Mejia's balancing of running, alongside school, residence life duties, and Moot Court, continues to impress.”

Larade and his team will now turn their focus to the AUS Track season, which begins on the 23rd of November.
