Miramichi's Owen Amos aims high in commitment to Tommies Men's Basketball

Head Coach John Hickey has tapped into the Miramichi pipeline with the announcement of his newest recruit Owen Amos.

The 6'3 forward follows the pathway of current Tommie Ian Watters and recent alumnus Travis Valanne and was a bronze medalist with Team NB at U15 and U17 Nationals.

Amos is heading to St. Thomas to pursue his undergraduate degree and follow up with an Education degree. "STU saw the potential in me and I'm looking forward to an opportunity at a highly touted Education program.

Owen also is relishing in the chance to play for the Tommies.  "I can play inside and out and take the ball to the perimeter by creating plays for my teammates."

For Coach Hickey, Owen's pedigree with the Provincial team program will benefit the Green & Gold on the court.

"We’re excited to have Owen on board. Owen most definitely fits how we’re trying to build the program. He’s a very willing defender and versatile on the offensive side of the ball," mentions the 2nd year Head Coach.

There's no hiding the fact that Hickey expects a high level of commitment on his squad. "Owen's work ethic in practice and in games is contagious and I strongly believe that he’ll be a very good player in the ACAA for many years."

Although Covid-19 has derailed plans for ACAA league play in 2020-2021, the program is hopeful for a return in the Fall of 2021.
