Panthers Handle Tommies 85-7 on Grad Night

Fredericton, NB – The St. Thomas University Tommies hosted the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers Sunday night in their final home game of the 2021-22 season, resulting in an 85-7 loss.

The Tommies honoured four graduating players for their efforts over the years; Oliver Larson (Saint John, NB), Nigel Cornelius (Cambridge, NS), Chandler Gard (Mill River East, PE), and Justyn Roberts (Fredericton, NB).

The short-benched Tommies were in tough against a tough Panthers team, and the battle became more uphill early in the first half when Riley Lester (Saint John, NB) was sent off for his second yellow card of the match, forcing the Tommies to play a man short for the remainder of the game.

The Tommies held the Panthers to just 24 points in the first half, but rain out of steam to finish off the game.

"It was a pretty rough one for us today," said Tommies' head coach, Matt Coffey. "The boys stuck in and played hard until the end. Losing Riley was challenging; he's a guy who gets us going forward on offence and has some pretty good coverage on defence. There were some individual performances that stood out for me, but unfortunately we couldn't pull it out as a group."
