Leading into the 2021-22 season, Tommies head coach, Matt Coffey, has added some local talent to his men’s rugby squad.

Chris Denhollander will suit up in the Green and Gold following time spent with the New Brunswick U19 Spruce and the Fredericton Loyalists, a team Coffey is familiar with, having played with the Loyalists for years.

Denhollander, an imposing force up front is looking forward to using his physicality to help the Tommies this year.

“I plan on bringing my energy to put some aggression in the front row. I’ve wanted to play at a higher level. I’m looking forward to some tough competition, which will bring my skills up,” said Denhollander when asked what he was most looking forward to with STU rugby.

“Chris is a durable and physical presence with a lot of upside to boot. We’re happy to have him in our program and he’ll make an immediate impact,” said Coffey about his latest recruit.

It isn’t just the rugby program that brings Denhollander to STU. The atmosphere on campus also drew his attention.

“I chose to go to STU because I know the type of environment it is and thought it was where I belong. It’s a place where I can go to school and do the things I’m passionate about.”

Denhollander and the Tommies will open their season with a home game at the Grant-Harvey Turf against the UNB Ironmen on September 19th.
