Tommies add well-rounded libero Frederickson from Winnipeg

The St. Thomas University men’s volleyball is thrilled to announce the commitment of libero Alex Frederickson of Winnipeg, Manitoba for the 2021-2022 season.

A standout from the 204 Volleyball Club, Frederickson is a well polished libero that will help the Tommies in many facets.

“Alex is a skilled passer and a very focused defender. He will complement our current veteran libero Brendan Murphy very well and we are very excited to add another player of his pedigree from Western Canada. He is the exact type of player we want on and off the court, said Head Coach Henri Mallet.

Regarded as a top tier player from the province of Manitoba, Frederickson has spent his entire career playing for the 204 Volleyball Club – one of the top club teams in Canada. He was awarded the Adrian Allard memorial scholarship which is an award given out by the club to a player(s) who has played for the club for five or more years. He also suited up for St. Paul’s High School in Winnipeg where his team finished in third place at provincials in 2019.

Frederickson states his decision to commit to the Tommies is in large part due to Head Coach Henri Mallet’s vision of the program.

“I love the direction of where Coach Mallet is taking the team and love his goal of trying to win a national title and I believe with this team, we can be the team to bring home that championship,” said Frederickson.

“Outside of volleyball, STU is also just a beautiful campus and offers interesting courses in psychology and other humanities,” he added.

Frederickson joins Kevin Douglas (Surrey, BC) as the second recruit in the 2021-2022 recruiting class and becomes the first recruit from Manitoba in program history.

The Tommies have completed their exhibition matches after the COVID-19 pandemic caused a cancelled regular season of conference play.  The team is entering the off-season and continues to train in anticipating of returning to a full season in 2021-2022.
