Tommies land Fraser Valley recruit Kevin Douglas as first of class for 2021-22 season

The Fraser Valley Volleyball Club in British Columbia has been good to the St. Thomas University men’s volleyball team. It has produced current captain and one of top point getters in program history with Christian Christie and now, Head Coach Henri Mallet has landed his second recruit from the club with the announcement of his newest recruit, Kevin Douglas.

Douglas, a 6’6 middle blocker from Surrey, British Columbia will be bringing some welcomed height and a winning pedigree to the Tommies front row.

“From my first conversation with Kevin, I knew he was someone that could help elevate our program. He’s a terrific volleyball player with a great volleyball IQ, but he’s an even better person,” said Mallet.

During his time with the Fraser Valley Volleyball Club, Douglas assisted his team to an 11h place finish at Volleyball Canada Nationals in 2019 and even better finish of 4th place in 2018. He also captained his high school team at Sullivan Heights Secondary in Surrey, BC.

This is the type of his success he is hoping he can continue at St. Thomas.

“It's going to be exciting to move across the country and live on the east coast. I can't wait to settle in and be a part of the program and help continue the Tommies tradition of winning. This will be a huge adventure for me, and I know I have big shoes to fill with my west coast predecessors like Christian Christie and Jonah Burridge (2013-2018),” said Douglas.

With Covid-19 cancelling the 2020-21 ACAA regular season, the Tommies are hopeful for some exhibition play before the end of the semester as practices have now resumed.
