With their season currently on pause, the St. Thomas University Tommies women’s hockey team isn’t putting the brakes on their 2022-23 recruiting class as Trinity Webber has committed to the Tommies.

The forward from Brampton, ON is currently playing with the Kitchener-Waterloo Lady Rangers of the PWHL. She currently has one goal in nine games for the Lady Rangers.

“Trinity Webber is a gritty 200-foot player,” said Tommies’ head coach, Peter Murphy. “The puck tends to leave the defensive zone off her stick as she supports very well low in her zone. Her speed and agility gives her the ability to get the puck to the middle of the ice in the offensive zone and a willingness to retrieve it from the corner.  These are becoming the skills of choice in the game. She shows an offensive flair, but it is tempered with her awareness of the two-way nature of the game.”

Webber attributes the community and family atmosphere that both St. Thomas and Fredericton present, making it an easy decision for her when it came time to choose her post secondary path.

“I chose St. Thomas University for its people, education, and hockey,” said Webber. “Everyone I met was so inviting, clearly demonstrating the close-knit community that will lead to genuine relationships with my professors, classmates, and the city of Fredericton. The reputable liberal arts and social work programs offered at St. Thomas are a perfect fit for me. To make this choice that much easier, the Tommies hockey program presented me with the opportunity to play university-level hockey with a family oriented, welcoming, and competitive team that I couldn’t turn down.”

Murphy also knows that Webber has plenty to offer away from the rink as well, making her an ideal recruit for the Tommies.

“As important as her hockey skill is, her character is just as important and Trinity is someone who wants to make a difference on her team, at her university and in her community.”
