Fredericton, NB - The University of New Brunswick Reds women's rugby team used tries from eight different players to hand the St. Thomas University Tommies their second loss to the open the season.

Megan Stewart kicked off the scoring for the Reds and she was followed by Katherine Maxwell, Cori Kirkpatrick, Lauren Tidd, Maddie Matchett and Catherine Boissonnault, who all had one try each. Faith Abel finished with two tries and Alicia Simmie had three to lead the Reds. Kate Bennett converted on seven of the tries.

The Reds jumped out to a 31-0 score at half time before Rebecca Ring (Saint John, NB), scored the lone try for the Tommies on the day.

"Our system started to work on offence, but we got beat on defence," said Tommies head coach, Nathan Bustard. "We had a lot of stand out performances individually, but as a team it just wasn't there today."

Bustard was pleased with his team's performance despite the result, stating that a lot of players played out of position and that there is a learning curve to go with that. He also didn't hesitate when asked if any players stood out for him during the game.

"Kassie Trainor had a great performance; positive tackles and affecting the game on both ends. Sarah Hetherington really kept us steady in the backfield and played a full 80 [minutes]. She never let herself get down, even though she was dealing with some injuries."

The Tommies will play host to the UKC Blue Devils next Sunday, September 26th, while the Reds will travel to Mount Allison University to play the Mounties.
