Fredericton, NB - First year fly-half, Amelia Jardine, had three tries and converted four more as the University of King's College Blue Devils defeated the St. Thomas Tommies 50-17 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at the Grant-Harvey Turf Field.

The Tommies started the day off by warming up in orange t-shirts in honour of National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. Tommies' head coach, Nathan Bustard, said it was a team led event and that he couldn't be prouder of his group.

"I think we need to do a job representing our university and ourselves that we want to show support for the indigenous people here in Canada. We came together as a group and it was really player organized and we agreed with it wholeheartedly as a coaching staff.

From the opening kick the Tommies the Tommies controlled the battle of field position, thanks in large part to a long run from rookie, Kyleigh King (Oromocto, NB), but the Blue Devils responded with some large runs of their own, leading to Jardine's first try of the day. The Blue Devils would open up a 24-0 lead on the heels of tries from Caitlyn Gannon, Chloe Beamish and Jardine's second. That lead could have ballooned to more if not for some try saving tackles from Sarah Hetherington (Saint John, NB), before Kyra Gate (Truro, NS) would get the Tommies on the board before the first half ended.

"In my eyes this was the best game of the year for us so far," added Bustard. "Our systems worked, we didn't have the outcome we were expecting, but we finally started to see some of our strategy work in place. We had a lot of great energy."

Rounding out the scoring for the Blue Devils were Mackenzie Butt, Taryn Hanrahan and Mali Triger. Finishing the scoring for the Tommies were Becca Ring (Saint John, NB), and Elizabeth Harmon (Fredericton, NB).

Next action for these two teams will be October 3rd, when the Tommies head to Halifax to face the Blue Devils.
