Roberts, McWilliams and Nancekievill Named ACAA All-Stars

The 2021-22 women’s soccer season has come to an end and three players were honored at the ACAA level.

Rookie keeper, Laura Nancekievill, was named ACAA 2nd Team Keeper after a season that saw her allow just six goals in her 10 games. Nancekievill has some standout performances, including a 9 save shutout against UKC and 11 save game against MSVU.

“Laura was nearly unbeatable this season,” said Tommies’ head coach Michelle DeCourcey. “She had five shutouts, and with only two goals on record, our wins and ties this year were often thanks to Laura. She has some of the stickiest hands I’ve ever seen and is almost impossible to beat in the air. On top of all of this, Laura is kind, humble and a hardworking team player.”

There were also two Tommies named ACAA All-Stars, with Kaleigh Roberts being named to the 1st team and Jessica McWilliams being named to the 2nd team. Both players have had sparkling careers for the Tommies in the back end, and both played vital roles in the Tommies allowing so few goals.

“Kaleigh and Jess are both ultra-reliable defenders,” added DeCourcey about her backend stalwarts. “They have been extremely consistent and a major reason why, despite our losing record, we gave up very few goals this season. They are team leaders, and both possess the ability to shut down top attackers with speed, soccer smarts and sharp tackles. Kaleigh, a team captain for three seasons now, has been one of the most consistently impactful and outstanding players in the league, not only this year, but for the past four seasons. Jess, having moved up the field from centre back to the midfield, displayed her versatility and ability to contribute to our offense this season."
