DeCourcey Leads Tommies Youth Movement for 2021-22 Season

The last time the St. Thomas University Tommies women’s soccer team took the pitch in ACAA soccer action they were facing the Holland College Hurricanes in the 2019-20 ACAA Championship game.

A lot has changed for the Green and Gold since that game, but some things remain constant. Head coach, Michelle DeCourcey, returns for her 6th year with the team, and leading the charge for the Tommies on the field will be three-time ACAA All-Star, Kaleigh Roberts (Moncton, NB). Roberts will be joined by eight other Tommies from the 2019-20 team.

“Two of our top defensive players, Kaleigh Roberts and Ginny Phillips, are coming into this season fresh off winning the NBPSLW Championship, having played with the Picaroons Reds senior women's team this summer,” said DeCourcey. “They will serve to solidify our strong defending core.”

Roberts, along with Jessica McWilliams (Tracadie, NB), Abbey Curwin (Saint John, NB) and Rhys Dixon (Fredericton, NB) will be counted upon to lead this young group of Tommies.

“They know what it takes to succeed in this league and will no doubt push to go out on top,” added DeCourcey. “We will look to build from the back, possess the ball as much as possible, and attack and defend as a team.”

Having made it to three straight ACAA Championship games, the Tommies will look to continue that success in 2021-22.

“We will take one game at a time. I expect that the team will work hard to achieve the goals they set out for themselves. I believe that we have a strong squad and I expect that they will make every effort to find themselves playoff-bound come the end of October.”

The Tommies will open their season September 11th at 2:00pm at the Grant-Harvey Turf Field against the Dalhousie AC Rams.
