Mystics Continue Hot Streak, Shutout Tommies 1-0

The Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics shutout the St. Thomas University Tommies at the Grant-Harvey Turf Field on Sunday to preserve their perfect start to the season, winning their fifth game in a row. The Tommies drop to a record of 2-3.

STU coach, Michelle DeCourcey, believed that her team was not at its best today.

"It was a decent effort but we definitely didn't play to our full potential," she said. "I think we need to bring that against a top-notch opponent."

The game's only goal came in the 35th minute when Kaitlyn Oakey (Dartmouth, NS) played a perfectly-weighted pass to Annika Munroe (Halifax, NS), and she put it beyond the STU keeper. The Tommies struggled to deal with the MSVU front three of Munroe, Oakey and Ashley Neves (Dartmouth, NS), who tormented them throughout the game.

DeCourcey also spoke about how STU struggled to create many clear openings.

"I think we'll come in remembering what we learned from this game and knowing that we have to step up to the challenge and create better opportunities for ourselves."

The next fixture for the Tommies will be at home to the Dalhousie Agriculture Campus Rams on October 1st while MSVU will head to Moncton to face the Crandall University Rams on October 2nd.
