SEASON RECAP: 2015-16 a Benchmark Season for Women's Hockey

The Tommies women's hockey team had one of its most successful campaigns this season, competing for the Atlantic University Sport championship for the second time in program history and qualifying for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national championships. 

The Tommies opened the season on a three-game winning streak. Their success continued into early November, but the they dropped their last four games of the first half en route to a 6-5-1 record at the break. 

The Tommies took care of business in the second half of the season. They won 10 of their 12 remaining regular season games to finish third in the conference standings.

In the AUS quarterfinals, the Tommies swept the sixth place Dalhousie University Tigers and advanced to the semifinal series against the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues. With a trip to nationals on the line, the Tommies came back to win game one 4-3 over UdeM and skated to a 3-1 victory in game two to secure their place in the AUS finals and the CIS national championships. 

The Tommies faced the St. Mary's Huskies in the conference final and, despite forcing game three with a 4-1 win in Fredericton, fell 5-1 in the deciding game of the series. 

At the CIS national championships, the Tommies went 1-2 for a sixth place finish. Their 2-1 win over the McGill Martlets in the consolation semifinal was the program's first-ever win at a national championship.

Kelty Apperson was named the AUS women's hockey Most Valuable Player, while Jessica McCann was named to the AUS and CIS All-Rookie team as well as the AUS second team.
