SEASON PREVIEW: Tommies Golf to Rebuild in 2015-16

SEASON PREVIEW: Tommies Golf to Rebuild in 2015-16

The golf team at St. Thomas University is expecting tough competition this season in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association conference.

With only two players returning from last year's team that ranked thirteenth at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association national championships, it will be a rebuilding year for the Green and Gold.

Tommies head coach Ed Jeffrey expects a strong showing from his group, nonetheless.

"It will be a bit of a rebuilding year, but a strong showing is expected. With our partnership with West Hills golf course the team now has a regular place to play and practice and that in itself should help us better prepare before the ACAA Championships in early October," he said.

The Tommies have finished second in the last two conference championships and have improved steadily in their nationals appearances over the last two seasons.

Returning players Jake Lloy, Brandon Pierce, Douglas MacFarlane and Quentin Desroches will lead the Tommies team this season, with new additions Nick Brown, and dual sport athletes Sam Anstey and Jonah Burridge making their STU golf debut this fall.

The Tommies will begin preparing for the ACAA championship this weekend as they host an event at Mactaquac Golf Course, Setpember 19.
