24 student athletes from the St. Thomas University Tommies have been named Academic All-Canadians by U Sports, another increasing the number from last year’s winners.
The recipients of the Academic All-Canadian award maintain a strong grade point average during the academic year.
Florence Awde (Mount Albert, ON), of the women’s Hockey team, is a two-time U Sports Academic All-Canadian and has set the bar high for herself, both in training and in the classroom.
“I really value both my academic and athletic pursuits and I think the hard-work you put in on the ice needs to translate into the amount of effort you put in in the classroom to be successful as a student athlete!" The third year defence player juggles a busy load: "As a student-athlete and someone who balances two jobs, time management has been essential in being successful in my academics and athletics. I use an agenda diligently and set daily goals for my conditioning, schoolwork, and hockey practices."
Tommies continue to pursue academic excellence, as the Green & Gold see another increase of student-athletes achieveing this academic honour.
The Tommies have now been honoured with this award 380 times since 2004-05. Here is the full list of the 2019-2020 U Sports Academic All-Canadians:
