Tommies End First Half With 75-71 Win Over Seawolves

The St. Thomas University Tommies edged the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves 75-71 in ACAA men's basketball action Sunday afternoon in Fredericton. 

The Tommies jumped to a 23-9 first quarter lead, but the Seawolves closed the gap in the second and were trailing by ten after 20 minutes of play. 

The Green and Gold held on to their lead throughout the second half, but back-to-back triples from Keegan Gray brought the Seawolves within one with a minute to go. 

On the next play, Dylan Gallant responded for the Tommies, knocking down a trey ball to put the home team up 72-69 with 32.7 on the clock. 

The Seawolves got off two shots from beyond the arc in the dying seconds of the game, but weren't able to convert. 

Mitch Claybourn paced the Tommies with 21 points and six rebounds, while Gallant and Travis Valanne added 14 points each.

The Seawolves were sparked by Gray, who led all scorers with 26 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Steeve Ryan added 15 points in the loss. 

The Tommies end the first half of play with a 3-5 record and sit in fifth place in the conference standings.
