Fredericton, NB – The St. Thomas University Tommies put in a dominant performance over the University of King's College Blue Devils on Friday evening and secured their spot in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletics Association finals. STU were victorious by a score of 91-58.

The Tommies burst out of the gates and had UKC on the back foot for the entire game. Their energy and pace was just too much for the Blue Devils and the score reflected this gap. At the end of the first half, STU had a lead of 44-14.

"Tonight we thought our defensive energy was very good, we guarded, we rebounded well and we played well in transition," STU coach, John Hickey, said after the game.

This was mainly due to the excellent work of the Defensive Play of the Year, Gayo Isaya (Fredericton, NB), and Vincent Lyttleton (Markham, ON). Isaya was relentless with his defensive duties and did not give the Blue Devils' players any time on the ball. He finished the match with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Isaya was the first-line of defense and Lyttleton was the first-line of attack. He was just as lively as Isaya and scored freely in the first half. He had 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals, all in just 23 minutes.

"Vince was very good tonight, he guarded with passion and it translated to getting out and into the transitions," Hickey said.

There must also be credit given to Ted Braden (Ottawa, ON), who used his height to his advantage and prevented UKC from getting many rebounds. He was lethal in defense and finished with an impressive stat-line of 10 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and five blocks.

Jaydin Nordin had a game high 23 points, to go along with 6 steals and 5 rebounds for the Blue Devils.

Hickey is remaining focused going into the final. "We're going to talk about the same things we have all year, staying in the moment, guarding with energy and playing well in transitions. That conversation has been the same all year," he said.

The Tommies will now how the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics on Sunday in the ACAA Championship game.
