Tommies Roll Over Blue Devils

Fredericton, NB - The St. Thomas University Tommies defeated the University of King's College Blue Devils by a score of 90-74 on Sunday at Lady Beaverbrook Gym,

The Tommies starting five all finished with double-figure points, which included some standout performances. STU was without Gayo Isaya (Fredericton, NB) for their second game in a row but once again showed the depth of their squad. STU coach, John Hickey, said he was happy about the team's defensive efforts.

"It speaks to our depth," Hickey said. "We've got a lot of guys who are capable of coming and giving good minutes so not having Gayo this weekend really spoke to our depth."

On the offensive side, Geoffrey Lavoie (Ottawa, ON) continued his good scoring weekend with 15 points, three rebounds and three steals. The other two who contributed silently in the game were Harrison Florean (Fredericton, NB) and Evan Valanne (Miramichi, NB) who were both dominating in the rebounding department. They finished with eight rebounds each and combined for 24 points.

The Tommies are entering the final games of the season and coach Hickey believes the team should try to continue this good run of form until the end of the season.

"It important to play well. The league is so tight that every game means something so it's important that we want to go into the playoffs playing well."

The Tommies' next match is on Friday where they will renew their rivalry with the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves in Saint John. The next game for UKC will be on Saturday when they host the Crandall University Chargers.
