St. Thomas University and Leo Hayes High School teamed up to showcase rugby talent in the Atlantic region last weekend at Scotiabank Park South.
The high school rugby jamboree featured six men's teams and four women's teams, and was the first of what organizers hope will be an annual event.
The women's final was an overtime thriller, with Oromocto High School Gold edging Fredericton High School in the second round of penalty kicks. Becca Baker of FHS was named the women's tournament MVP and received a $500 tuition certificate from St. Thomas for her efforts on the pitch.
The men's final pitted Kings Edgehill School from Nova Scotia against Fundy High of St. George. It was a tight match, but Fundy came out on top by a score of 7-0. David Lee of Kings Edgehill was crowned the men's tournament MVP and also received a tuition voucher from St. Thomas.
