The St. Thomas University Tommies men's soccer team has gained consistency and skill with the addition of keeper George Tzimas.

Tzimas, of Maple, ON, will join the Green and Gold on the pitch this fall and will provide stability in net—something the Tommies have struggled to find in the past.

Head coach John-Ryan Morrison is thrilled to have Tzimas fill a gap in his roster.

"I am really excited for everything that he brings to the squad on and off the pitch," he said.

"I've been very impressed with the way George handles himself and after his campus visit, watching him play, and seeing him interact with the team, I knew STU was a good fit for him to continue his academic and athletic career."

Tzimas, who intends to study Economics, boasts a strong soccer pedigree. He comes to the Tommies from St. Joan of Arc High School and the Sigma FC club program. He's won three consecutive Soccer Academy Alliance Canada (SAAC) championships, as well as an Ontario Youth Soccer League title.

The future Tommie said the highlight of his career was having Morrison reach out to him to join the STU squad.

"I will bring hard work, dedication, and technical skills to the Tommies. I've been trained by coaches from different parts of the world that have given me different perspectives of the game," he said.

"I hope to positively influence my teammates and provide them with the comfort they need to move the game forward knowing I have their back in the net."

Tzimas joins Nunzio Marceca, of Winnipeg, MB, Riley MacLeod, of Brookfield, NS, Jose Guevara, of Honduras, and Juan Diego Correa, of Panama, in the 2018 recruiting class.
