Fredericton, NB - In his rookie season with the St. Thomas University Tommies men's soccer team Brett Springer finished second in the ACAA with 9 goals. He picked up right where he left off as he recorded a hat trick in the Tommies 4-0 victory over the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Rams.

In the 18th minute of the game Springer (Bamberg, ON) opened the scoring for the Tommies. Nine minutes later veteran Ryan MacKinnon (Fredericton, NB) found the ball in the box after a scramble and calmly netted his first goal of the season. Shortly after that goal Springer broke through the Rams back end and broke away alone on Rams keeper, Callum Macleod, and faked a shot before slotting in his second goal of the match. He would complete the hat trick in the 46th minute, solidifying his spot as an elite scorer in the ACAA.

"Pretty good start, three goals in the first game," said Tommies head coach, John-Ryan Morrison. "I think he's the best striker in the league."

The Tommies had an opportunity to push the lead to 5-0 late in the second half as Lucas Joel (Courtice, ON) stepped to the penalty dot, but Macleod came up with a terrific save to keep the score 4-0.

"Whole new team, and I saw a lot of things that we have been working on in training camp and a lot of things we can improve upon," added Morrison.

The Tommies will face the Holland College Hurricanes Sunday at 2:15 at Grant-Harvey Turf Field.
