Fredericton, NB – Brett Springer (Bamberg, ON) marked his return to the St. Thomas University Tommies team with two goals and led his team to a 3-0 victory over the University of King's College Blue Devils on Sunday afternoon.

Springer was suspended for the last two games and it did not take him long to get back into the groove at an overcast Grant-Harvey Turf Field. At the 18-minute mark, he was played in behind the Blue Devils' defense. He then rounded the keeper and calmly placed the ball into the net, beyond the sliding defender. The UKC defense just could not cope with the league's top-scorer as he went close to scoring again when he hit the post and shot just over the crossbar.

"He's [Springer] having a great year and those couple games off, now he's nice and fresh for the playoffs and the finals," head coach, John-Ryan Morrison, said after the game.

The next few minutes saw Josh Oakes (Kitchener, ON) score from a corner when he snuck in at the back post to head home the Tommies' second goal. STU controlled the majority of the first half and it could have been 3-0, if not for a clearance off the line by UKC to deny Ravtej Singh (Fredericton, NB).

The start of the second half saw both teams stifling each other in possession. The Blue Devils came close from a corner but the shot was off-target. The half remained even up until the very end when Springer struck again. He was played in by a lovely through-ball and shielded the ball before shooting under the keeper to get his second goal. This goal was also his 10th goal of the season. The Tommies ended the game with a clean sheet and kept their unbeaten run going.

"I thought we had a really good first half…and we got the six-point weekend that we wanted," Morrison added.

The Tommies' next game will be on the road to DAL AC on Saturday. The UKC Blue Devils will be away to MSVU on the same day.
