Tommies Best Hurricanes in Home Opener

The St. Thomas Tommies bested the Holland College Hurricanes in ACAA men's volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym.

After dropping the first set 18-25, the Tommies rallied to take the next three sets 25-19, 25-19, and 25-22.

Stephane Blinn powered the Tommies with 19 kills and seven digs, while Francis Sirois chipped in with 11 kills and 14 digs.

The Hurricanes were led by Kenton Dawkins, who connected for 13 kills and four digs. Gordon Veitch and Brett Butler contributed 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

The Hurricanes struggled to serve the ball--they had 21 service errors during the match--which gave the Tommies an edge. The teams were well matched defensively but strong hitting from Blinn and Sirois, who both had a kill percentage of over 50 per cent, was able to push the Tommies past the Hurricanes.

The Tommies are back in action Sunday, November 13 when they travel to Saint John to take on the UNBSJ Seawolves.
