Halifax's Will Leblanc is the latest recruit to commit to the St. Thomas University Tommies men's volleyball team.

A newcomer to the sport, Leblanc has quickly become one of the top prospects in Nova Scotia.

"Having only started volleyball in grade 10, Will has shown quick improvement and we think he will be a solid player in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association," Tommies head coach Henri Mallet said. "With his work ethic and strong character, he will solidify our opposite position."

Despite being only three years into his volleyball career, winning is a top priority for the soon to be Citadel High School grad.

"One of my main goals is to win an ACAA championship and compete nationally," he said. "To medal at a national championship would be a dream come true, but even just to play on that stage would be the thrill of a lifetime for me."

Standing six-foot four, Leblanc will help fill the gap of graduating players Stephane Blinn, this year's conference MVP, and powerhouse hitter Francis Sirois.

"Will is not only brining height to the roster, but he's also a left handed hitter. Lefties can lead to favourable match-ups. We're excited to see him develop into a high caliber player," Mallet said.

Leblanc also excels in the classroom, and the academic atmosphere at St. Thomas was the perfect fit for his desired university experience.

"I picked STU because I could feel the atmosphere right away. It's not a great big school, so often you can develop real relationships with your professors and classmates which can lead to a better education," he said.

Leblanc joins Garret Dickson, of Miramichi, NB, and Christian Christie, of Langley, BC, in this year's recruiting class.
