Prospective Program: Criminology and Psychology

For the second consecutive season, the St. Thomas Tommies men’s volleyball program is digging into the Truro Tide pipeline to find a setter.

Austin Atkinson, a 5’10 setter who also suits up for the reigning provincial champion Cobequid Educational Center Cougars, has committed to the Tommies for the 2019-2020 season.

A polished player, Atkinson has won numerous championships at the high school and club level, as both of his teams have dominated the Nova Scotia volleyball scene of late. His play is highlighted by a tier 2 Eastern Canadian Championship in 2017.

ACAA Rookie of the year and current starting setter for the Tommies, Henry Doucet, is excited to link back up with his old teammate.

“Austin is an excellent setter. He continues to improve unlike any other player I’ve ever been around. He’s a great defender and has great vision of the court at all times,” Doucet explained.

For Atkinson, he takes the praise in stride and wants to continue to develop under the guidance of Head Coach, Henri Mallet.

“I pride myself on being a good teammate and giving my all for my team every chance I get. I can’t wait to work hard and ultimately help win games for this team,” Atkinson said.

The high school senior is also eyeing plenty of academic success.

“I really like the Criminology and Psychology programs at STU and committed to the school for that reason and any chance to play volleyball was the cherry on top of an already very appealing school.”

Atkinson is the second player to commit to the Tommies for the 2019-2020 season, joining Oromocto, NB native, Noah Tulk.
