Hurricanes Best Tommies in Four Sets

Fredericton, NB - The Holland College Hurricanes bested the St. Thomas University Tommies 3-1 in an important game for positioning in the ACAA standings at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym. Set scores were 25-17, 25-23, 18-25 and 25-11. The Hurricanes move past the Tommies for second in the standings with an 8-5 record, with the Tommies drop to third at 7-6. The Université Sainte Anne Dragons hold the top spot at 10-3

The Tommies were led by performances from Brenton Romanchuk (Drewbarry, AB) and Adam McDougall (Calgary, AB). Romanchuk had eight kills while McDougall had seven. Raph Fiset (Calgary, AB) had six kills and 22 assists.

On the Hurricanes side, Cameron Calhoun led the way with 11 kills and nine digs. Chase Parsons had seven kills for Holland while Kiefer Sinclair had three kills and 25 assists.

It almost looked as if a repeat of the last matchup between the two was coming - the Hurricanes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in two closely fought sets. Last time, the Tommies came back to dominate the fifth set and win the match 3-2.

The Hurricanes kept storming after the Tommies came out with life in the third set to stay alive. In the fourth set, Holland jumped out to a 10-4 lead, killing the Tommies' momentum they had generated. They wouldn't look back and ran away with a 25-11 set win to finish the match and avoid a repeat of their last matchup at STU.

The Tommies will head to Saint John for their next match to take on the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves on Feb. 10 at 8:00pm. The Hurricanes will host the Dragons on Feb. 11 at 5:00pm.
