Mystics Edge Tommies 70-67

The Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics edged the St. Thomas University Tommies 70-67 in ACAA women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym.

The Tommies jumped to a 23-9 lead after the first quarter, but the Mystics found their rhythm in the second and closed the gap to five at the break.

The Mystics came out firing in the third. Their pressure in the front court, combined with strong outside shooting, allowed them to outscore the Tommies 25-10 and take a 10-point lead into the final frame.

The Tommies settled in defensively in the fourth and regained their composure, which allowed them to chip away at the Mystics' lead. A strong take to the hoop from Lainy Dow, followed by a triple from Jessica Patenaude, put the game within reach for the Tommies but the Mystics held on for the win.

The Mystics offense was fueled by Madison Hiscock, who connected for 17 points and hauled in 11 rebounds. Kate Gallant added 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Breanna Buis chipped in with 11 points.

Jessica Patenaude and Jayme Hunt had 16 points apiece for the Tommies in the loss. Sara Banks continued her strong play, chipping in with 12 points.

With the loss, the Tommies drop to 2-1 on the season. The Mystics improve to 2-0.
