Tommies Best Mounties 62-59 in Fredericton

A trey ball from Jayme Hunt with 12.5 on the clock pushed the St. Thomas University Tommies past the Mount Allison Mounties 62-59 in ACAA women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym.

The Tommies held a two-point lead at the break, but the Mounties outscored the home team 24-16 in the third to take a four-point advantage into the final frame.

It was back and forth in the last ten minutes, but the Mounties got a couple big hoops from Erin Steeves that gave them a two-point lead late in the game. On the next Tommies possession, Carissa McTague took it hard to the hoop and finished through contact to tie the game 59-59.

McTague missed the free throw, but the Tommies shut out the Mounties offense to set up the Hunt triple in the final seconds of the game.

Hunt led all scorers with 15 points, while McTague added 13.

The Mounties were paced by Kiersten Mangold, who connected for 12 points and hauled in 12 rebounds.

With the win, the Tommies improve to 6-2. The Mounties drop to 3-4.
