Tommies Fall to Hurricanes in ACAA Semifinal

The St. Thomas University Tommies fell 79-57 to the Holland College Hurricanes in the ACAA women's basketball semifinal Saturday afternoon in Sackville.

It was a punch-for-punch battle in the first, with the Hurricanes narrowly outscoring the Tommies 20-19. The second quarter was much of the same as the Tommies trailed the Hurricanes 36-34 at the break.

A lopsided third quarter in favour of the Hurricanes put the Tommies behind 13 heading into the final frame. The Hurricanes pulled away in the fourth thanks to some hot shooting from ACAA Player of the Jayla Verney and Darcy Zink.

Verney finished the game with 31 points and Zink added 14. Cassie Cooke recorded a triple-double for the Hurricanes with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.

The Tommies were led by Carissa McTague, who had a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Jessica Patenaude chipped in with 10 points.
