Fredericton’s Rhayne Storey to Join Tommies Women’s Basketball Program

Rhayne Storey is getting another chance to lace up her sneakers and play basketball in front of a home crowd.

The soon to be Fredericton High School graduate, who suffered a season-ending knee injury at the beginning of her senior year, will be joining the St. Thomas University Tommies basketball program in the fall.

"We're excited to have Rhayne joining our program," Tommies head coach Fred Connors said. "She's coming off a serious injury and we are pleased with her progression thus far and her commitment to the game. Once we get her knee back to a healthy place, I feel she's going to be a contributor to our success."

Storey brings a strong basketball pedigree with her to the Tommies. She played three years of provincial-level basketball and competed at two Canada Basketball National Championships with Team New Brunswick. She comes from an established high school program, having played under FHS varsity head coach Kevin Daley for three years, and was awarded the Black Kats Rookie of the Year award in 2014-15 and was the Coaches Choice award winner in 2015-16.

"Rhayne is going to add a layer of toughness and physical play that we are always happy to add to the program," Connors said. "She's very team focused and will help us move toward a championship season."

Storey has family ties to St. Thomas—her mother Carys graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in 2008 and is also a member of the coaching staff for the Tommies' women's volleyball team.

"I want to attend STU to get a good education and play basketball," Storey said. "I'm so excited to be a part of the program and a part of something so big. I love representing my school and I can't wait to be a Tommie."

Storey is the third new addition to the Tommies' 2017-18 roster, joining Quispamsis native Alana Dowling and Cole Harbour's Leila Rashid.
