Katie Vidito is the latest member to join the Tommies’ women’s basketball team’s ’22-23 recruiting class. The 6’ shooter from Charlottetown had plenty of suitors from the Atlantic region but decided on Fred Connors’ Tommies.

“The coaching staff are extremely excited to announce Katie Vidito has joined the Tommies program,” said Connors. “Katie has proven to be a remarkable young lady who strives to succeed for her teammates.”

Vidito has grown up in Charlottetown playing through the Charlottetown Rural Women’s AAA basketball team (2019-22), PEI Women’s Basketball Canada Development Team (2020, 2021), PEI Women’s Canada Games Team (2022), and the U15 PEI Provincial Team (2018, 2019). Throughout her time playing she has won several tournament All-Stars, was a 2021 PEISAA 1st Team League All-Star and the 2019 Kevin Campbell Memorial Education Award, which is presented to a grade nine student who exemplifies Stonepark School’s traits of empathy and kindness, respect and responsibility, work ethic and attitude, and athleticism.

“Katie and her family are outstanding people and exactly who we want to have on the Tommies program,” added Connors.

Vidito credits the smaller class sizes St. Thomas offers as well as the sparkling reputation the women’s basketball has within the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association for making her decision easier.

“Academically, I chose St. Thomas for many reasons,” said Vidito. “I feel as though it perfectly aligns with what I am looking for to continue my education. I really enjoy the idea of having a smaller class size so I can make personal connections with my classmates and professors.

“In my conversations with Coach Connors, I have realized that he wants the absolute best for his players. The program has a tremendous reputation, and it has been a staple of the conference for a long time. I love the team style of play, and it fits well with my skill set. I am so excited to join such a great bunch of girls.”

Connors is equally excited to have Vidito join the Tommies, as it isn’t every day you can add an elite shooter with her size.

“At 6 feet, she can see over the defense and stretch the floor for others. She is a very smart player who passes the ball well and has proven to be very coachable. She has already started watching how we defend and asking how to get ready to help us next year.”
