Tommies Blowout Blue Devils

Fredericton, NB - The St. Thomas University Tommies came out victorious by a score of 83-45 against the University of King's College Blue Devils on Sunday afternoon at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym.

Kylee Roi (Saint John, NB) and Ava Prosser (Johnstown, ON) combined for 15 points each, with Roi getting four rebounds and three steals. She continued her good run of form from the last game and pressed on for her team. STU head coach Fred Connors said he was elated with Roi's performances over the weekend.

"I thought she was excellent yesterday too but today she scored the ball a bit more," Connors said. "She's so strong and athletic and her finishing at the rim is getting better."

Another player who continued her good weekend of play was Jaiden Penney (Fredericton, NB). The stats do not track defensive effort or things like deflections, of which Penney was the main instigator for the team. She finished with nine points and six rebounds. Connors was also complimentary of her performance.

"She deflects and disrupts so much on the defensive end and I think this was the best game she has played for us."

With three games left in the season, Connors thinks it is important to use this momentum to finish the season strong and take it into the playoffs.

"Playoffs is going to be an absolute dogfight and it doesn't matter what seed you're in so for us it isn't about standings it's about where we're at and we're feeling good about this weekend."

The Tommies' next match is on Friday where they will renew their rivalry with the University of New Brunswick Saint John Saint John Seawolves in Saint John. The next game for UKC will be on Saturday when they host the Crandall University Chargers.
