St. Thomas University Athletics is proud to announce the addition of Claudia Steeves to the women's basketball team. Hailing from St. John's, NL, Claudia will join the Tommies as a guard/point guard. 

Claudia honed her skills at Holy Heart of Mary High School, where she showcased her natural athletic ability and leadership on the court. As a multi-sport athlete, Claudia has excelled in basketball, volleyball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, baseball, softball, hockey, and cross-country. Her dedication to her craft has earned her recognition at both provincial and national levels, including a remarkable 6th place finish with her U17 Newfoundland and Labrador basketball team at Nationals, the highest ranking for the province since 2001.

In addition to her athletic prowess, Claudia is also a dedicated student with a passion for communications and storytelling. She will be pursuing a degree in journalism and communications at St. Thomas University, aiming to merge her love for sports with her academic interests.

"I'm thrilled to be joining Coach Connors and the Tommies," said Claudia. "Coach Connors dedication to the team and commitment to individual player development were key factors in my decision to join STU. I'm excited to contribute to the team's defensive strength and competitiveness while pursuing my academic and athletic goals."

Claudia's impressive accolades include being named team MVP at the SSNL 4A Provincials and earning first-team all-star honors during her grade 11 season at the Mun Invitational. Her provincial coach praises Claudia's drive to succeed and her unwavering dedication to her craft, highlighting her as an invaluable asset to any team.

"We are thrilled to welcome Claudia to the Tommies family," said Fred Connors, Head Coach of the women's basketball team. "Her talent, work ethic, and commitment to excellence align perfectly with our program's values. We look forward to seeing Claudia thrive both on and off the court."
