The Tommies women's hockey team had a successful regular season, but fell short in their pursuit of the 2016-17 AUS title.

The STU squad welcomed a strong rookie class to start the year and jumped to first in the conference standings with a record of 12-1-1 at the break.

The Tommies continued their strong play into the second half of the season, winning their first three games by a wide margin and earning the no. 2 spot in the U SPORTS national rankings.

In late January, the struggles began and the Tommies dropped five of their last seven games of the regular season.

With their second place finish in the AUS standings, the Tommies earned a bye to the semifinal series. Up against the StFX X-Women, who were peaking at the right time, the Tommies dropped the first game of the series 6-2. They countered with a 2-0 win in game two, but weren't able to fend off the X-Women in the deciding game of the series.
