Tommies Women’s Hockey Solidify Team Offense with Addition of Kaylee Vader

The St. Thomas University Tommies women's hockey team has added another offensive threat to its roster.

Kaylee Vader, of Sherwood Park, Alberta, will join the Tommies this season as they work toward another strong showing in the Atlantic University Sport conference.

Tommies head coach Peter Murphy is pleased to have added Vader to the lineup and believes she will help solidify the team's offense.

"Kaylee has great size that she uses to her advantage in and around the net. She creates space for herself and her linemates, and reads the defense very well," he said. "This allows her to shoot or pass when it's appropriate and she has real finish offensively."

Vader was a member of the 2017 Esso Cup National Champion St. Albert Slash midget 'AAA' team. In 27 games this season the forward netted 15 goals and assisted on 13.

The future Tommie chose St. Thomas for a number of reasons, one of which was seeing how St. Albert Slash goalie coach Julia Sharun—who was a goaltender for the Tommies from 2009-2013—put her experience with the Green and Gold to use.

"After seeing my coach apply her experiences I aspire to do the same thing and represent STU in the game of hockey," Vader said. "I wanted to pursue hockey at a high level, and after visiting campus I could see how well-run the program is."

Vader joins Olivia Reid, of Aurora, ON, Leah Galati, of Mississauga, ON, and Margarita Dorofeeva, of Moscow, Russia, in this year's recruiting class.
