The St. Thomas University Tommies women’s hockey team continues to load up their 2022-23 recruiting class with the addition of forward Tahlia Mallaley.

Mallaley, who is from Charlo, NB, comes to the Tommies from the Mount Academy in Prince Edward Island. She was named to the 2021 Female Under 18 Challenge Cup roster for team New Brunswick before the tournament was cancelled.

“Tahlia is an agile forward with a real offensive upside,” said Tommies’ head coach, Peter Murphy. “She shows great hockey sense and can setup linemates but also get herself into shooting positions. We have watched her for a few years, and we see a player with a real ability to take her game to another level.

“Tahlia brings a lot of skill to the team, but we also see her for the person she is and know she will do everything she can on and off the ice to contribute to Tommie success,” added Murphy.

The tight-knit community of STU hit close to home for Mallaley, who is looking to pursue an education in psychology.

“I chose St. Thomas University because of the diversity of opportunities both academically and athletically. Coming from a small region and always being surrounded by small communities, this was a huge priority for me. Knowing that St. Thomas is a tight-knit community, I knew it was the best fit for me. St. Thomas offers a great hockey program where I have the opportunity to play university level hockey as well as a great Bachelor of arts program where I can pursue psychology.”
