Tommies Women’s Rugby Prepares for Semifinal Tilt with Rams

The St. Thomas University Tommies and Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Rams will face off in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association women's rugby semifinal Saturday at Scotiabank Park South.

The winner will take on the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds for the conference title November 5.

The Tommies have come out on top in both regular season meetings with the Rams, but head coach Meghan Morrison said her team needs to stay focused and be ready to make adjustments.

"Against DAL AC we need to stay focused on what we want to do, which is moving the ball well, making smart decisions on the field, and taking advantage of any errors," she said.

"Overall to be successful in our post-season we are going to need to adjust to what our opponent is doing and make that happen quickly."

This will be the first post-season appearance for the Rams since 2013 when they were crowned ACAA champions. The Truro, NS, team finished the regular season with a 3-5 record and was paced by fourth-year scrumhalf Katie McQueen, who crossed the try line 13 times in eight games.

The Tommies, who will be making their third consecutive post-season appearance, had a 6-2 record. They've relied on a balanced attack this season with 19 players registering at least one try.

Given their young team—the Tommies added 11 rookies this season—Morrison is proud of how far they've come.

"For a very young team, we're playing well and continue to play better and better as a team. I feel like we've worked up to a great level of play in time for playoffs," she said.

"Two months of hard work has made a tremendous difference and I'm looking forward to seeing the team show that on Saturday."

The Tommies will kick off against the Rams at 2:00 pm on October 29 at Scotiabank Park South.
