Varsity Reds Shutout Tommies in ACAA Final

The St. Thomas University Tommies were shutout 24-0 by the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds in the ACAA women's rugby championship final Saturday afternoon at College Field.

This is the third consecutive silver medal finish for the Tommies, who were chasing the undefeated Varsity Reds all season.

It was a defensive first half, with the Varsity Reds holding a 5-0 lead at the break thanks to a late try from Taylor Morgan.

The flood gates opened for the Varsity Reds in the second half. Morgan crossed the try line for the second time off a great individual effort and Julija Rans converted to put UNB up 12-0.

The Tommies spent much of the game on the edge of the Varsity Reds's try line but weren't able to capitalize.

Amy Andrews increased the Varsity Reds's lead with a try and Rans added her second conversion for a 17-0 advantage. Morgan rounded out the scoring with her third try of the game just minutes before the final whistle.
