Moncton’s Jessica Sauter Another Strong Addition to the Tommies Program

The women's rugby team at St. Thomas University has bolstered its backfield with the addition of Jessica Sauter.

Sauter, of Moncton, NB, comes to the Tommies following a career with the Bernice McNaughton Highlanders, where she was named team MVP in her senior year.

The future Tommie was also a member of the U18 New Brunswick team for two years playing in the centre or at fullback.

Tommies head coach Meghan Morrison said Sauter will be a strong addition to the program's backfield.

"Jessica has been an impact player in high school and has the physicality needed to make the transition into Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association rugby," she said. "I look forward to seeing her and the rest of our young team find their groove this season."

Sauter, the fourth member of this year's recruiting class, is excited to be continuing her rugby career and education at St. Thomas.

"I chose STU because I wanted to go to a small university and because of their strong rugby program," Sauter said. "I love everything about rugby—the practices, the nerves before a game, the adrenaline rush, the friendships, and all the blood, sweat, and tears."

The Tommies have finished second in the ACAA the last three years and will open their season in a rematch of last year's final against the UNB Varsity Reds. Game time is 6:00 pm at College Field.
