Tommies Win Second in a Row with Victory Over Blue Devils

Fredericton, NB- The St. Thomas University Tommies used a balanced attack to defeat the visiting University of King's College Blue Devils 80-12 at Scotiabank South Field.

The Tommies got off to a quick start in the game as Kyra Gate (Truro, NS) broke through for the opening try of the game, just five minutes in.

Myriam Noel (Moncton, NB) was the next to score, as she used her blistering speed following a great individual effort from Hope Metallic (Listiguj, QC) to get her the ball. Noel would finish the day with two tries.

Becca Baker (Keswick Ridge, NB) scored three tries on the day with rookie Sarah Hetherington (Saint John, NB) scoring two tries of her own. Scoring solo tries for the Tommies were Kristen Bulman (Moncton, NB), Victoria MacKenzie (Westville, NS), Metallic and Kassie Trainor (Hampton, NB) and rookie Alyx Hodson (Stratford, PE) got their first tries as Tommies.

"We had a lot of different players being able to get on the pitch and score, so that went well," said head coach Mary-Kim Schriver. "We are a team looking to fill in gaps that were left from last year's team and we are firming those positions up by trial and error. This was a good opportunity to do that. Defensively we are looking to be quicker to regain possession."

"Kyra was amazing today, she's very hard to take down and they really struggled to stop her in her tracks," added Schriver. "Alyx and Hope were great for us too. Alyx really digs her cleats in and everyone was excited for her to get her first try and Hope really showed her ability to be a strong support player on the field."

The Tommies will close out their home schedule on October 4th at 6:00pm, when they host the defending ACAA Champions, the UNB Reds.
