The St. Thomas University Tommies women’s rugby program is pleased to announce their third member of the ’22-23 recruiting class, Atheana Harris of Moncton, NB

Harris comes to the Tommies from the Moncton Black Tide and Bernice MacNaughton High School Highlanders rugby programs, where she is the starting prop at the latter.

With the Tommies graduating a strong group from their forwards, women's rugby head coach, Rebecca Baker, deemed it a position of need heading into the 2022-23 season.

“We are confident that Atheana will make a great addition to our rookie squad this year,” said Baker of her latest recruit. “Atheana’s positive attitude and self-discipline will add value to the program. She has good size and strength for her role in the forwards and is a solid tight five player. As we are graduating a couple standout forward players this year, we are excited to see Atheana step into those roles.”

Harris intends on pursuing a degree in the prestigious St. Thomas Social Work program while playing rugby.

“I’ve chosen STU because I’ve heard awesome firsthand experiences,” said Harris. “The programs look amazing and give me the best opportunities for my future career. I believe I’ll bring a fun positive attitude, hard work, discipline and dedication to the team.”

Harris joins Alexis Falconer and Vada Benoit in the ’22-23 recruiting class for women’s rugby, with more additions to come.
