Women's Rugby Recruit is 'Boorne' to be a Tommie

Valerine Boorne
Hometown: Sackville, NB
High school team: Tantramar Regional High Titans
Club Team: Bagtown Bruisers
Provincial Team: Black Tide

Tommies Women's Rugby Head Coach Becca Baker announces her 5th recruit heading into the 2022 Fall Season with Tantramar's Valerie Boorne commiting to the Green & Gold.

Some would say she was 'Boorne' to head to STU.  "I chose STU for many reasons.  It  has always been a top choice for my post-secondary education, but so many factors attributed to my final decision. I find I gravitated towards the smaller university experience, especially for my undergraduate program."

Valerie will be able to study in various subjects she has shown a keen interest, noting St. Thomas's programs in English, Philosophy, Criminology, Psychology, Journalism, and Forensic Anthropology.

Coach Baker is excited at the prospect of an all-around player who bides her time in the scrum-half position.  "She can push through defensive lines with ease and can exploit space well. Valerie is a determined, young player and we are excited to see how she contributes to the program over the next few years.”

Boorne will be ready for the challenge as the Tommies look to battle for the ACAA championship.   “I think my biggest strength skill-wise is my speed, otherwise my quick-learning and dedication," quips Valerie leading into a competitive college conference this Fall.

An active player currently playing NBIAA Rugby for the Tantramar Titans, she'll be busy with summer rugby with the Black Tide and the Bagtown Bruisers.  "I am constantly working to improve myself and am consistently working with my teammates to build connections and skill. I am always competing with who I was yesterday.”

Boorne joins Alexis Falconer, Vada Benoit, Atheana Harris and Becca Macmullin as the newest recruits for Head Coach Becca Baker and the Tommies Women's Rugby team.
