Tommies Top Chargers 3-1 for First Win of the Season

The St. Thomas Tommies women's soccer team topped the Crandall University Chargers 3-1 in their home opener Saturday afternoon at Scotiabank Park South.

Tommies midfielder Katie MacDermaid opened the scoring for the Tommies in the 36 minute after a lightly hit ball slipped past the Crandall keeper to make the score 1-0. Teammates Phoebe van der Muelen and Olivia Ormond chipped in with goals in the 83 and 88 minute to lock down the win for St. Thomas.

Paige Talbot was the lone goal scorer for the Chargers.

The Tommies controlled the tempo for most of the game and, despite a few offensive zone turnovers, secured their first win of the season.

The women are back in action Sunday morning at 11am when they face the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves at Scotiabank Park South.
