Veteran Backfielders Awarded All-Conference Honours

Fourth-year soccer Tommies Zoe de Bellefeuille and Amy Sheppard were named Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association all-conference players for 2016-17.

Bellefeuille was named to the conference's first team, while Sheppard earned second team honours.

This is the second consecutive first team all-conference award for Bellefeuille, who is studying Communications and Public Policy. The fourth-year centre back from Ottawa, ON, netted three goals for the Tommies this season and took the bulk of the team's free kicks, often creating scoring opportunities for her teammates.

"Zoe's presence on the field is hard to miss," Tommies head coach Michelle DeCourcey said. "She's proven to be one of the most dangerous players in the league as she's ready to attack, even from defensive positions."

A fellow backfielder—and now a second team all-star—Sheppard played every minute of the regular season. The New Waterford, NS, native is an understated threat at wing back, but has proven to be one of the Tommies hardest working players.

"Amy is small but mighty, a fierce defender with the ability to go forward," DeCourcey said. "She's shown her consistency with a constant game face and unwillingness to quit."
