Tommies Add Versatility in New Recruit Olivia Ormond
The women's volleyball team at St. Thomas University has added its first recruit for the 2016-2017 season.

Olivia Ormond, an attacker from Oromocto, NB, will join the Green and Gold on the court next season.

Tommies head coach Don McKay is pleased to have added a versatile player like Ormond to the team's roster.

"We're very excited that Olivia has chosen to attend St. Thomas and be a part of our volleyball program," he said. "She's a very versatile athlete who can play middle and either attacker, left or right side."

Ormond, a product of Oromocto High School, brings plenty of volleyball experience to the Tommies' roster. She played four years of high school volleyball, on top of competing with the U14 and U18 Reds Volleyball program.

As a member of the U18 Reds for the past two seasons, Ormond earned a provincial volleyball title this season after falling short last year for a silver-medal finish.

Being well-coached and coming from strong programs, McKay believes Ormond will fit in well with the Tommies.

"Olivia loves to play defence and has been a part of a winning program," he said. "She brings many intangibles to the team, which are essential as we strive to improve each year."

The Tommies are coming off a solid 2015-16 campaign, where they finished third in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association standings with a record of 12-9. After defeating the University of King's College Blue Devils in the conference quarterfinals, the Tommies fell 3-0—15-25, 19-25, 24-26—to the Holland College Hurricanes in the semis.
