Tommies Fall 3-1 to Hurricanes

The St. Thomas University Tommies fell 3-1 to the Holland College Hurricanes in ACAA women's volleyball action Saturday night at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym.

Set scores were 29-27, 23-25, 23-25, and 24-26.

The Tommies came out strong in the first set and jumped to a 9-4 lead off solid serving and attacks. The Hurricanes eventually settled in and made a push late in the game, but the Tommies held on to take the set 29-27.

It was back and forth early in the second, but the Hurricanes held a slim two-point lead throughout the set. The Tommies rallied to tie the game, 16-16, but the Hurricanes countered with efficient offense and closed out the game to tie the match at 1-1.

The Hurricanes maintained the momentum in the third and began finding holes in the Tommies back line. After trailing by as many as six points, the Tommies battled back to tie the game at 22 but couldn't complete the comeback as the Hurricanes took the set 25-23.

The teams traded points in the fourth until the Tommies took a three-point lead off misplays by the Hurricanes. The lead was short-lived though—the Hurricanes responded and tied the game, 16-16. The Tommies matched every point by the Hurricanes until late in the game when two unforced errors gave the Hurricanes the win.

Alice Marques led the Hurricanes with 21 kills and five digs, while Megan LeBlanc added seven kills and seven digs.

The Tommies were led by Megan Mills, who tallied 10 kills and 11 digs. Hannah Millier added 10 kills and six digs, and Deidra Jones chipped in with nine kills and 18 digs.
